Russia

During World War II, the Russian Air Force had a variety of aircraft types that served in different roles and missions. Some of the most  notable russian aircraft were the Ilyushin Il-2, a ground-attack aircraft that was heavily armored and could withstand enemy fire; the Yakovlev Yak-9, a fighter plane that was fast and maneuverable and could challenge the German Messerschmitts; and the Tupolev Tu-2, a twin-engine bomber that could carry a large payload and perform dive bombing. These aircraft types contributed to the Soviet victory over Nazi Germany and its allies.
